You are invited to a new exhibit by San Francisco Chronicle photographer Mike Kepka and two other photographers entitled "SF: Street Level." The exhibit features the work of three San Francisco based photographers, Mike Kepka, Ray Potes and Ted Pushinsky at the San Francisco Exposure Gallery. The exhibit captures everyday moments found on the streets of San Francisco including local characters and quarks of the city from the 1970s to present.

Mike Kepka has been working for the past ten years as a staff photojournalist at the San Francisco Chronicle, where he produces still images, video and multimedia features. In addition to covering the daily news and features in the San Francisco Bay Area, he has spent the past two years working on a photo column, “The City Exposed,” that explores the quirky side of San Francisco life. Before the Chronicle he spent two years at the Monterey Herald. He graduated with a Bachelor's of Science and Visual Communications from Ohio University. "I have the best job in world because everyday I get tell stories about the people who make San Francisco – well, San Francisco," says Kepka. Find The City Exposed in the Style section of the Sunday Chronicle or online at www.sfgate.com/cityexposed

Ray Potes has been making pictures for the past 20 years. He is the editor and publisher Hamburger Eyes photo magazine. Hamburger Eyes is inspired by the traditions to record and document that began with National Geographic and Life magazines and dedicated to revitalizing the sensation of photography as a craft. www.raypotes.com and www.hamburgereyes.com

Ted Pushinsky’s work has been exhibited internationally, including shows at the Tokyo Nakaochiai Gallery, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the University of Lethbridge in Canada. His work has been published in several publications, including Vice Magazine, Fader Magazine, Newsweek, Boxing USA, and Dance Magazine. www.tedpushinsky.com

SAN FRANCISCO EXPOSURE GALLERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

Would any of you out there be interested in volunteering at the Exposure Gallery on Saturdays? We currently have gallery hours from 12pm to 5pm on Saturdays and looking for help to keep it open.

It's pretty simple, it's mainly just having someone there to keep the space open. It's a nice chuck of time to get some reading or catch-up work done. If you are a working professional we could organize a portfolio review time where people could sign up for a review with you while you are there. It could be for just one Saturday or multiple Saturdays if you would like to continue.

We would give you a rundown of the set up etc, before your shift. The gallery is run on an all voluntary basis, so unfortunately, we cannot provide any compensation.

If you are interested please contact Karna Kurata or Ariel Zambelich at: info@exposuregallery.org

A judge dismissed a lawsuit against Oakland Tuesday that said police officers infringed on a Oakland Tribune photographer Ray Chavez's rights when they arrested him as he was trying to shoot photos of a car crash and the emergency response to it. The lawsuit, filed by Chavez in August, stems from an incident May 4, 2007.

Chavez, who was driving north on Interstate 880 in Oakland, stopped his car to shot photos after a vehicle in front of him crashed.

The lawsuit alleged that an Oakland police officer blocked Chavez's access to a news scene for no reason and interfered with a reporter's freedom-of-the-press rights. The lawsuit sought unspecified monetary damages and additional training for Oakland police on how to work with media workers.

But U.S. District Court Judge Charles Breyer dismissed the suit in an opinion issued Tuesday.

"We believe that clearly the judge's decision was wrong," said Terry Gross, an attorney with the San Francisco law firm Gross, Belsky & Alonso, which is representing Chavez. He said the judge misinterpreted the federal law and that they will appeal the decision and file a claim in state court.

Chavez was never taken into custody, but the lawsuit said he was cursed at and was subjected to humiliation after he was left on the roadside in handcuffs for 30 minutes.

Chavez said he is disappointed by the judge's decision. "The police are going to keep violating our First Amendment, the right to gather information and cover newsworthy spot news," he said. "It's unfair, not only for me, but for all journalists, because it can happen to them, too."
