Walter Leal, the passionate head of UC Davis entomology department holds a 10-lines June Beetle after capturing it. In the foreground is a almond tree that has almost been completely destroyed buy the beetle eating the root. Leal had a dozen students out there hunting for the beatle. The beetle contains only a minuscule amount of pheremones which needs to be extracted end identified in hopes of finding ways to target the beetle,. The team of Walter Leal, chair of the entomology dept at UC Davis and students position themselves before dusk and work collecting through full darkness and beyond.Picture taken is a Manteca almond orchard July 31, 2007.
