A Sacred Sleep: The sound you may hear entering St. Boniface church in San Francisco is not praying...it is snoring. A dedicated group of volunteers keep watch over about 100 homeless people who sleep in the cavernous church daily. They can use the bathrooms, eat, get a massage or maybe a haircut, and catch up on some sleep in the pews. The homless stay near the rear of the church so as not to disturb mass. Many who are forced to wander the streets at night to stay safe, find the church a wonderful sanctuary during the day, getting enough sleep is always a priority.4-10-05
