STORY SUMMARY: India has 33 million widows, many of whom suffer social deaths when their husbands die. Thousands of elderly widows have been flocking to holy cities in India for hundreds of years after they are deemed bad luck and cast out of their own homes. One such bustling pilgrim town, Vrindavan, has come to be known the ÒCity of Widows.Ó They arrive here by the thousands to worship Krishna and pray for a reunion with the divine. To survive, the widows beg from pilgrims alongside the multitudes of IndiaÕs poor. The lucky ones find refuge in one of the townÕs only shelters for the widows.
