Phyllis Lyon (left) and Del Martin, together for 51 years, embrace after becaming the first same-sex couple to legally marry in San Francisco. They were married behind closed doors at San Francisco City Hall on February 12th in front of lesbian and gay rights activists and members of the San Francisco mayoral staff. Nearly 4000 same-sex couples married in San Francisco before a judge ruled the marriages invalid.
