Irene Pinole, 76, one of the oldest living people with Down Syndrome, is a survivor. Now living in a group home, she spent a few decades housed in state mental institutions where life was awful. For most of the past 20 years, she has spent her days making art at a center for the disabled where she watercolors and sews quilts. May 2004
