CYA CROSS-Photo essay on the troubled California Youth Authority (CYA) and the lives of its young offenders. Rosary beads hang from a wards bed in the "Humbolt" dorm inside the O.H. Close Youth Correctional Facility. O.H. Close Youth Correctional Facility Opened in July of 1966, the O.H. Close Youth Correctional Facility is one of three facilities collectively known as the Northern California Youth Correctional Center (NCYCC), near Stockton. Institutional facilities include an administration building, a 28-classroom educational center, gymnasium and swimming pool, football and track field, an auditorium, chapels and t living units composed of separate 65-bed residence halls connected by a common dining room. Most wards live dormitory-style, although each residence hall has 12 individual rooms. A lockup unit is used for temporary detention.
